True Love-Martin House Brewing Co. - Review

Purchasing this was a last second decision to buy this and I frankly was unenthusiastic about the price I paid. But I have to say, flavor wise and otherwise, I was very content with this beer. It’s gotta a very laidback, casual business vibe. I can drink this at a wedding or a super bowl party, in slacks or in jorts. But I would happily drink one or four.

This beer is a sour ale (but not an IPA) and it’s 5.2 ABV, which is pretty reasonable. It’s got a mild but solid raspberry flavor that is smooth but adventurous going down. No big aftertaste, but undoubtedly a bit of tartness left behind in the mouth feel. Drinking this beer is surprisingly tactile due to the flavor palette. You’ll hit some fruity, almost wine-like notes, followed by a buzzy little tart coda. I’m not gonna say I love this coda, but it’s an interesting note of flavor that shouldn’t offend it’s critics too harshly.

I usually liked fruity beers and I liked this one. I had never had a raspberry beer before, but I believe this is a good one. Unlike certain other beers I may have had recently, it’s very true to it’s fruit elements. It’s not laundering the berry in a stout ale or something. Though it’s still a beer, True Love is more wary of not being a raspberry sour ale than not being a beer. Which I think is very smart because True Love’s strengths are it’s unique elements as a beer.

If there’s one thing the world needs more of today, it’s good beers. And True Love is a very strong and distinct choice here. I like a nice sour every once in a while and I think this one is a great addition to the catalogue. And if you like sour ales with a cool can and a slightly artsy vibe, this one should grab your attentions.
