BetterGoods Ultra-Thin Pepperoni and Ricatta Pizza- Review

After the first bite, I was like “Goddamn that is a good pizza.” After the second bite I had to consider that it might be one of the best pizzas of any kind I’ve ever had. I’ve had many frozen pizzas and many pizzas overall. I’ve made many pizzas. I understand the challenges and decisions that come with constructing the perfect pie. And here, I think they got it absolutely right.

Pepperoni and ricotta. Sounds a little light for a frozen pizza, where they typically try and stack ingredients (of various qualities) to bump up the flavors and hide the aforementioned quality of the components. But this works beautifully. The pepperoni is a sturdy, solid pep and ricotta, which freezes and reheats very well, is a brilliant choice of add-on. It melts in your mouth and gives a rich flavor that enhances the mozzarella without overpowering it and complements the pepperoni very nicely. The crust heats up very evenly and does provide a nice snap when you bite into this pizza.

I really can’t say enough about how the ricotta elevates this pie. It’s a very simple, cost effective addition, but it absolutely dominates this pizza in a good way. My first bite was delightfully chewy and goey, the cheese pulling away from the slice. The ricotta isn’t just a flavor choice, it’s a textural choice. It’s richness and thickness lend a sort of body to an otherwise slim pie. It’s also a very creamy addition that livens up the pepperoni.

BetterGoods absolutely cooked with this pizza. It’s unique and subtle in it’s greatness. It knows what’s it doing as a frozen pizza and leans into that with it’s flavor and ingredient choices. Making ricotta, a very freeze stable topping, the star shows a level of understanding about how frozen pizza demands different conditions. It’s also, as I mentioned before, a very affordable pie for the quality. It’s only at Walmart but if you’re there, you should find it pretty easily. I will probably try another one soon. I think you would enjoy this pizza too. So if you see it, maybe give it a gander. At least now you know it’s good.
